Fit & fabulous

We might not all be lucky enough to have a home gym but did you know that it is easier than ever to create your very own work out space?

2019 is well underway so it’s time to wipe the slate clean. Time to end the debauchery of New year and the festive period; the booze, the food, the dodgy dancing...

As we emerge from underneath the party season, we are confronted with the inevitable consequence of our seize-the-moment existence of the last two months - hello weight gain, sluggishness, bad skin and low mood.

Something needs to change; we spring into action, sign up for the gym and vow to start training for that marathon. But in between busy careers, children and long commutes we are lucky if we manage to wing one workout a week...!

So, what's the solution?

Luckily, a new trend is making waves in the home building and interior industry, providing alternatives to real people with real commitments by designing homes with built-in health and fitness facilities. But what if you can’t afford a luxury pad that incorporates space for gyms, swimming pools, saunas or hot tubs? We’ve got you covered with these solutions.

1.     Turn your spare room into your new gym. Nowadays you don’t need fancy equipment and expensive machinery as there are tonnes of videos online that promise a summer body without ANYTHING. Simply create some floor space, invest in some fancy clothes and get cracking.
2.     If you do have enough space and money to buy expert equipment then go for it. But remember, just because the gym has 15 different types of machinery, doesn’t mean that you need it. If you never use the rowing machine, then there isn’t any point buying one for your home.
3.     As with any room in your property, atmosphere is essential. Have a think about what motivates you and fill your space with the paraphernalia that will help you visualise what you are trying to become. Tailor your environment to your personality so that as soon as you walk into the gym you’ll pique your subconscious mind to prime you for hard work and success.
4.     There aren’t many rooms where bright colours can look great but the gym is one of them! Equally blacks and greys work well for a sophisticated appeal.
5.     Rumour has it that you burn around 17 calories walking up one stair! So, what are you waiting for? During the advert break of your favourite boxset, walk up and down the stairs to tone your glutes…

Overall, it is important to remember that your home gym will evolve over time. Start with the very basics and keep an eye out for the upgrades you need.
